Netherton, Gulls Fly Over Lynx

CAMBRIDGE, Mass – The Endicott College Gulls improved to 8-4 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action this afternoon with a 3-0 win over the Lynx at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. Junior Travis Netherton (Waukegan, Ill.) had a match-high 12 kills while hitting a remarkable .800 for Endicott to go with his two blocks. Lesley falls to 0-10 on the season and 0-5 in NECC play.

Junior Mike Coniglione (Glenville, N.Y.) finished with nine kills for the Gulls while nearly matching Netherton's hitting percentage, swinging at .727 for the match. Freshman setter Tyler Bacon (Cypress, Calif.) had a match-high 30 assists while sophomore Billy Mullen (Weymouth, Mass.) led the team with seven digs.

Leading the charge for the Lynx was junior Melvin Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) who had four kills while freshman Makenzie Lukas (Reno, Nev.) and Spencer Irwin (Somers, N.Y.) each finished with three. Classmate Jess Cherry (Lancaster, Pa.) had a team-high seven assists and senior Sean Randall (Fremont, Calif.) finished with a match-high 14 digs.

In the first set, the service of Coniglione and junior Josh Anderson (La Canada, Calif.) led the Gulls to a 19-3 lead en route to a 25-8 opening set win. Endicott senior Brennan Lowe (Malibu, Calif.) had three kills in the set.

After Lesley scored the first point in the second off an Irwin kill, Endicott would answer right back with a 15-2 run to give them a comfortable 15-3 advantage, and would go on to win the set, 25-10. The Gulls finished the set hitting .367 from the floor.

Lesley took advantage of a few early Endicott errors to open the third set to cut the Gulls lead to 6-3. Later, with Endicott leading 16-10, the Gulls would go on a 9-3 spurt to close out the final set 25-13.

Endicott, who had ten different players register kills, hit an impressive .337 for the match.

Lesley will return to action on Saturday, March 2nd when they travel to Daniel Webster College for a 1:00p start while Endicott will be on the road on Tuesday, February 26th to take on Southern Vermont. That match is set to start to 6:00p.
