Mill Carries Lasell Over Lynx

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lasell College Lasers opened up their 2013 campaign with a 3-0 victory over the Lynx tonight at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. The Lasers move to 1-0 on the year while Lesley falls to 0-5.

With the score knotted up 6-6 in the first set, Lasell went on a 11-0 run to take control on their way to a 25-15 set win. Senior Alex Mill (Danville, N.H.) was huge with the serve as he notched three aces during the spurt. Sophomore outside-hitter Dan Raffol (Natick, Mass.) had two of his five kills in the first.

In the second set, the Lynx grabbed an early 2-0 lead following a Spencer Irwin (Somers, N.Y.) kill and an ace from sophomore Herbin Berreondo (Brighton, Mass.). From there, the Lasers were able to take advantage of a slew of Lesley errors to come back and claim a 10-5 advantage. Lasell would run away with it, outscoring Lesley 15-5 to close out the second and take a 2-0 lead in the match. Once again it was Mill leading the offense as he connected for five kills while sophomore Abdulrehman Khan (Karachi, Pakistan) registered two for the Lasers.

Lasell jumped out to another early lead in the third and final set, as they score the first five points behind the service of freshman Anthony Allen (Blackstone Valley, Mass.). The Lynx tried to climb back in it, cutting the score 9-4, but Lasell would answer right back by scoring seven of the next eight points to roll to a 25-11 third set win.

Mill had a match-high eight kills for the Lasers while Matt Dionne (Danville, N.H.) and Dalton Whitman (Grafton, Mass.) each collected three. Sophomore Matt Dugan (New Lenox, Ill.) had a match-high 11 assists and senior Chris Burns (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished with 13 digs.

Leading the way for the Lynx was junior Melvin Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) who had four kills to go with his five digs while senior Sean Randall (Fremont, Calif.) registered a match-high 20 digs. Freshman Jess Cherry (Lancaster, Pa.) had a team-high five assists for Lesley.

The Lynx return to action on Saturday, February 9th when they open up New England Collegiate Conference play as they play host to Southern Vermont for a 2:00p start. Lasell is back at it on Wednesday, February 13th when they travel to Elms College for a 7:00p start.
