JWU Spoils Lynx Home Opener

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lynx opened up their 2013 home campaign tonight with a loss to Johnson & Wales University, 3-0. The score of the sets were 25-7, 25-18, and 25-18. It was the first match of the season for the Wildcats, moving them to 1-0, while Lesley falls to 0-2 on the season.

The first set was all JWU as they opened up with an 8-1 advantage and never looked back. The offense for the Wildcats was led by the serving of junior Dan Davison (Howell, NJ) and strong attacks from classmate Dan Tiner (Salem, NH).

Davison's serving was key to another early lead in the second set, as he led JWU to an 8-2 lead. Lesley would battle back behind four kills from junior Melvin Morales (Chelsea, MA), but were unable to garner a lead as the Wildcats pulled away again to a 25-18 set win.

In the third set, the Wildcats once again got out ahead early, this time a 6-0 advantage. The Lynx continued to battle and cut the lead to four. With the score 12-8, JWU went on a 4-0 run to extend their lead to eight. Freshman Ambrose Hogan III (New Bedford, MA) had two kills during the run and the Wildcats rolled to a 25-18 third set victory.

The Lynx return to action on Tuesday, January 19th as they travel to Wentworth Institute of Technology for a 7:00p start. JWU holds their home opener on Tuesday, as they will play host to Emerson College at 7:00p.
