Blazers zip past Lynx in three

CHICOPEE, MA -- Elms used a .380 team hitting percentage in its 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-12) win over Lesley, which got team highs of five kills and seven digs from junior Max Hoevenaar.

The Lynx middle hitter again led the team in blocks, this time with a match-best two solo rejections, but Elms opened leads of 10-5 in the first two sets and got out to a 10-6 advantage before running away with the third. The Blazers went up 19-9 in both of the first two sets and used a 12-1 run fueled by three straight service aces from Carlos DeLeon to go ahead 20-7 in its 25-12 Game 3 victory.

DeLeon led all players with seven service aces and nine kills. Elms' Bryson Rainey added six kills and only one error on 11 tries for a .455 hitting percentage, and Stephen Cameron went for six kills with no errors in 14 attempts for a .429 average.

Lesley freshman Brian Hicks chipped in behind Hoevenaar with four kills, and junior Alex Zhitnik tied Hoevenaar's seven digs. Setter Melvin Morales handed out 11 assists for the Lynx.

The team returns to play Tuesday night at 7:00 in NECC play at Endicott. Lesley will honor graduating senior Christian Domingo at next Saturday's Senior Day match at 2:00 p.m. against Southern Vermont at BB&N's Nicholas Athletics Center.
