Nighthawks soar over Lynx in three

BROOKLINE, MA -- Newbury College dropped the Lynx in three sets Monday night in New England Collegiate Conference men's volleyball play, 25-12, 25-9 and 25-14.

Herbin Berreondo and Melvin Morales each earned service aces for the Lynx. Christian Domingo led the team with a pair of kills as Lesley fell to 1-12 overall and 1-6 in NECC play.

The Nighthawks, which were led by Chris Chin's 10 kills on 12 attempts for a robust .750 hitting percentage, opened up early leads of 9-2 in each of the first two sets. In Game 3, a Domingo kill and two Newbury errors brought the Lynx to within 9-7 before a 6-2 streak for the Nighthawks started by a Justin Franks kill put the home team up by five or more the remainder of the way.

Franks totaled four kills on eight attempts for a .375 hitting percentage, and Newbury evened its record at 3-3 in league play (5-9 overall) by hitting .339 as a team.

Lesley returns to play on Thursday at home against Regis at 8:00 p.m.
