Lesley falls to first-place Gulls, 3-0

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Endicott College improved to 6-0 in New England Collegiate Conference play with a decisive 3-0 (25-6, 25-15, 25-12) victory over host Lesley University Wednesday night at the Nicholas Athletics Center.

The first-place Gulls hit a scorching .426 for the night, tallying 28 kills on 47 attempts with only eight kill errors. Mike Coniglione (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) led the way for Endicott (8-5 overall) with six kills and only one error on eight swings.

Carter Roche (Clifton Park, NJ/Shenendehowa) fired all of his match-high five service aces in an extensive opening set Gulls run, and Josh Bruno (Andover, MA/Andover) led all players with four solo blocks.

For Lesley, junior middle hitter Max Hoevenaar (Orlando, FL/Castle Christian) tied Coniglione with six kills and added two total blocks. Sophomore Melvin Morales (Chelsea, MA/Chelsea) totaled six assists, and senior Christian Domingo (Los Angeles, CA/College of Canyons) led the Lynx with six digs as Lesley fell to 1-10 and 1-4 in league play.

The Lynx opened early leads in all three sets before a 12-1 Gulls run in Game 1 and a 12-2 run in the second set distanced the visitors. Game 3 was a back-and-forth battle through the first half, with both teams exchanging leads early.

A pair of Morales aces brought Lesley to within a point at 11-10, but another 12-2 run fueled the Gulls to a fifth straight win. In scoring 12 of the night's last 14 points, Endicott got two kills each from Kevin Duggan (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) and Lance Pepper (Torrington, CT/Oliver Wolcott) to go along with five Lynx errors to complete the 25-12 win.

Lesley plays host to Newbury on Friday at 8:00 p.m., when Endicott takes on NYU.
