Emerson outlasts men's volleyball, 3-0

BOSTON -- Lesley men's volleyball fell to Emerson, losing 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-19) Monday night  in non-conference play in Brown-Plofker Gym.

Freshman Brian Hicks led the Lynx with seven kills and only one error, good for a team-best .286 hitting percentage, and senior Christian Domingo paced the team with nine digs. Junior middle hitter Max Hoevenaar dominated the net with a match-best five solo blocks and zero block errors as the Lynx fell to 1-9.

Emerson aced its way to a sizable lead in the opener. The Lynx scored the first point of the night on a Herbin Berreondo kill, but the Lions responded with a 12-2 run capped by three Nate Chivers service aces. After a Chivers serve error, Emerson scored another five straight on Nadav Swarttz aces to take a 17-4 lead in the team's 25-16 Game 1 win.

Three straight errors from Emerson's Todd Carroll tied the second set at 6-6, and a Berreondo kill then gave the Lynx an 8-7 lead. A Swarttz ace and kills from Emerson's Chris Davis and Connor Burton opened up a 17-14 Lions lead, but Lesley rallied behind an Alex Zhitnik ace and Hicks kill that tied the contest at 19-19.

With Emerson clinging to a 21-20 lead four straight Lions points on two Lynx errors and two Emerson kills capped a 25-20 second set win for the home team.

A pair of early Morales errors landed the Lynx in a 5-2 hole early in the third set, but Lesley tied the match at 8-8 on three Lions errors with Zhitnik at serve. Emerson responded with a 9-1 run on two Davis aces and two kills each from Burton and Eric Doherty to open up a 17-9 lead to distance itself for good in a 25-19 win.

With the win, Emerson evened its record at 6-6.

Lesley returns home after a three-match road trip to take on NECC foe Daniel Webster on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
