Hot-hitting Eagles fly by Lynx, 3-0

CAMBRIDGE, MA –Lesley University fell to 1-6 with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-12) setback to Daniel Webster Saturday night in New England Collegiate Conference men's basketball play at the Nicholas Athletics Center.

            Joel Hendrix (Newburgh, IN/Castle) and Joe Walz (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) led all players with 14 and 13 kills, respectively, for .381 and .385 hitting percentages as the Eagles hit .340 as a team in evening their record at 3-3 (2-3 NECC).

            For the Lynx, outside hitter Christian Domingo (Los Angeles, CA/College of the Canyons) led the way with 10 digs and five kills. Playing in his first match of the season, fellow senior Noah Shaw posted a match-high two solo blocks.  

            Leading 6-5 to start the night, the Eagles got two kills each from Hendrix and Walz during an 8-0 run with setter Kyle Clement at serve to break open Game 1. Daniel Webster got out to a 4-0 lead in the middle set, but Lesley answered with five unanswered points compliments of three straight Eagles errors. The Lynx led as late a 7-6, but with Daniel Webster clinging to a 17-16 lead, the visitors scored eight of the last 10 points to close out a 25-18 Game 2 win.

             In Game 3, Eric Smith (Clay, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and Chris Shannon (Ronkonkoma, NY/North Sachem) service aces highlighted Daniel Webster's 8-1 run that turned a 7-5 contest into a 15-6 Eagles lead. Shannon's match-best fourth service ace at match point closed out the team's 25-12 Game 3 win.

            For the Eagles, Clement led all players with 24 set assists.

            Lesley travels to Mount Ida in non-conference play on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
