Lynx fall on the road to Lasers, 3-0

NEWTON, MA -- Lesley University fell to host Lasell College in three sets (25-13, 25-11, 25-12) Thursday night in non-conference men's volleyball play.

Junior Max Hoevenaar led the Lynx with five kills and a match-best two solo blocks. Freshman Brian Hicks added three kills and three digs, and fellow first-year Herbin Berreondo added a pair of blocks assists, but 19 attack errors on 60 swings mired the Lynx in their setback.

Alex Mill and Dan Raffol tied for match-high honors with eight kills each for the Lasers, with the latter leading all players with 11 digs and the prior putting down a match-best three block assists.

The Lynx pounced out to a 7-3 lead to start the night, highlighted by an Alex Zhitnik service ace and Hoevenaar's first kill. After forcing a Lasell timeout, the Lasers responded with six straight points to take the lead for good in a 25-13 opening set victory.

Lesley used a pair of Lasers errors to get within 11-13 in the second set. With Vicenty Ithier serving, the home team rattled off 12 straight points, five on Lynx attack errors and two on Ithier aces, to end the set at 25-11.

Two kills each from Raffol and Mill opened up a 9-1 lead for the Lasers in the third set, as Lasell scored seven of the last nine ponits to close out a 25-12 win.

Lasell improves to 2-1, while the Lynx drop to 1-5.

Lesley returns home to take on Daniel Webster in New England Collegiate Conference play Saturday night at 7:00.
