Lynx pick up first win in Yao era, 3-0 at Regis

WESTON, MA -- Lesley picked up its first win of 2012 and the first win in the career of head coach Lok-Tin Yao, winning 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-16) at Regis College in New England Collegiate Conference play Thursday night.

Max Hoevenaar and Brian Hicks led the Lynx with nine kills each, the latter on only 18 attempts and one error for a .444 hitting percentage. Christian Domingo led the defense with 14 digs, while Hoevenaar led all players four solo blocks and four block assists.

As a team, Lesley hit a season-high .271, including a red-hot .529 during a clinching third set.

A Melvin Morales service ace in put the Lynx up 10-2 to open the night, and Hoevanaar followed up his own kill with a service ace that later gave the Lynx an 18-5 lead, and the team went on to win the opening set 25-12.

Behind a block and a kill from Hoevenaar, Lesley opened up a 6-0 lead in Game 2. A 7-1 Pride run cut the margin to 13-10 when four straight Regis errors and a Domingo kill made it a 22-15 contest before Lesely closed out its 25-17 win.

A service ace and a kill from Hicks helped the Lynx to a 7-2 lead to open the third. On four separate occasions, the Pride cut Lesley's lead to a point, the final time coming at 17-16. Lesley responded with kills from Hoevenaar, Domingo and Hicks mixed in between five Regis errors during an 8-0 run to close out the match.

For Regis (0-3, 0-2 NECC), David Amicangioli led the team with eight kills and seven digs.

Morales handed out a match-high 24 assists for the Lynx, which improve to 1-4 overall in 1-1 in NECC play.

Lesley returns to action next Thursday at Lasell at 7:00 p.m.
