Lynx fall to 0-2 at Johnson & Wales

PROVIDENCE, RI -- Johnson & Wales needed only three sets to advance past the Lynx on Tuesday night, winning 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-18) over Lesley at the Clean Harbors Recreation Center.

Max Hoevenaar led Lesley and tied for match-high honors with seven kills on 29 tries, earning the Lynx only block of the night. Christian Domingo added three kills, and Brian Hicks anchored the defense with five digs.

For Johnson & Wales, Josh Baker led the way with seven kills on 12 attempts, and Alex Vieira followed with six. Patrick Robideaux and John Bosch each totaled six digs as the Wildcats improved to 1-1 on the season.

Lesley hung tough through the midway point of Game 1, as a Hoevenaar kill and a Wildcats error cut the JWU lead to 13-11. A late 9-2 run, the last four points with former Lynx William Lau serving, gave the Wildcats a 23-13 lead as Johnson & Wales went on to win 25-14.

A Domingo kill on a pass from Melvin Morales tied the middle match at 4-4, but a 11-3 run followed, and JWU scored the last nine points to take a 25-11 victory. The Wildcats opened Game 3 on an 11-3 run, but a 10-4 Lynx run featuring six JWU errors pulled Lesley to within 16-14. Trailing by three, JWU went on a 5-1 run behing three straight points with Don Dias serving and won 25-18.

Lesley opens New England Collegiate Conference play on Thursday in its home-opener at 8:00 p.m.
