Hard-luck Lynx drop tough match at Emerson

BOSTON -- Lesley's tough luck continued, as the Lynx dropped three sets by a combined seven points Monday night at Emerson, losing 22-25, 24-26, 24-26.

William Lau led the Lynx offense with 10 kills, while Stephen Siragusa did the distributing with 21 set assists.

Seven straight Lions points, including two service aces, with Jeff Ackerstein serving sent Emerson out to a 10-2 lead in the opening set. From there, Lesley responded with an 8-1 run to pull within a point at 11-10, but the Lions opened up a 23-17 lead in securing their three-point victory.

The Lynx got off to a much better start in Game 2, opening up a 5-1 lead before later going ahead 16-12. A kill and a block by Emerson's Nadav Swarttz gave Emerson a 21-20 lead, but Lau gave Lesley back the lead, 22-21, with consecutive kills, but two Lions kills and a block gave Emerson a two-point win.

Neither team held more than a two-point lead in the third set, which saw an amazing 19 ties. With the set tied 22-22, a Lynx error gave the Lions the lead, but consecutive kills from Christian Domingo and Max Hovenaar soon tied the game at 24-24. Emerson's Steve Selnick answered with a kill and a block to secure the win for the Lions.

Lesley (1-21) returns to New England Collegiate Conference play on Saturday, taking on Southern Vermont and host Newbury in a tri-match in Brookline, MA.
