No. 11 MIT too strong for Lynx

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- With thoughts of an upset in mind and even taking a lead late in the second set, Lesley fell short of landing a point against No. 11 MIT in the Engineers 3-0 victory over their crosstown rival, besting the Lynx 25-9, 25-17, 25-17.

The Engineers jumped out to 1 20-4 lead in the opening set and cruised to a 25-9 victory, but Lesley rebounded to start Game 2 with a 4-1 lead. MIT used a 7-2 run to take the lead, but Lesley answered with a 7-1 run to take a 15-12 advantage. 

With the set tied at 17-17, the 11th-ranked Engineers ran off an 8-0 run to end it, including three service aces from Ken Siebert.

Lesley again led down the stretch in Game 3, a back and fourth contest that featured 10 ties and five lead changes. A pair of Domingo kills helped put the Lynx on top 15-14, but the Lynx couldn't hold on, eventually falling 25-17.

Siebert collected 11 kills, seven service aces, four digs and a block for MIT, which also got a match-best 15 kills from David Thomas.

Junior Christian Domingo totaled six digs and five kills for the Lynx, while Stephen Siragusa did the distributing with nine set assists. Senior Zachary Almeida-Beers led the defense with five digs as Lesley fell to 1-18 on the season, 0-11 in North East Collegiate Volleyball Association play.

MIT, meanwhile, improves to 16-4 on the year and 11-0 in the NEVCA.

The Lynx return to their side of the Charles River, playing host to Endicott Wednesday night at 8:00.
