CAMBRIDGE, MA – Lesley University men's volleyball sputtered in its attempt to avenge a tough loss at Daniel Webster on Saturday, falling to the Eagles 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-16) Wednesday night in New England Collegiate Conference men's volleyball play.
Daniel Webster's Joe Walz (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) was the difference, as he skied for match-highs of 16 kills and three solo blocks to go along with 11 digs. Chris Shannon (Ronkonkoma, NY/North Sachem) chipped in with a match-best 13 digs to go with 12 kills, and Kyle Clement (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth Catholic) added 25 assists, 11 digs and a solo block as the Eagles evened their record at 2-2, moving to 2-0 in NECC play.
For Lesley (1-12, 0-4 NECC), Tyler Reeves (Coventry, CT/Coventry) and William Lau (Charlestown, MA/Boston Latin) tied for a team-high 12 digs, and Christian Domingo (Los Angeles, CA/College of Canyons) totaled seven kills and seven digs. Zachary Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth) added eight digs and a pair of solo blocks.
Daniel Webster used a 10-3 run to come out to a 13-5 lead in the opening set. Walz set the tone for a dominant night at the net with three kills in the Eagles last five points, as DWC cruised, 25-13.
As it did in nearly coming back from a 2-0 deficit on Saturday in Nashua, the Lynx showed their fight in Game 2. Neither team led by more than two for the first half of the game, and back-to-back kills from Lau and Domingo tied the contest at 17-17. Daniel Webster countered by scoring seven of the next nine points, with Walz and David Miller (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) each getting up for two kills in the run that put the Eagles up 24-20 in their 25-23 win.
The Eagles used a 7-1 run midway through the final set to open up a 15-10 cushion, later scoring six straight points, five with Justin Masse (Hudson, MA/Alvirne) serving, in a 25-16 Game 3 win. Daniel Webster hit a combined .282 in Game 3, with Lesley posting a hitting percentage of .000.
The Lynx return to play Friday night in NECVA action at Mount Ida, and the Eagles are in NECC/NECVA action on Saturday at Elms.
