Lynx fall in five sets at Southern Vermont

NASHUA, NH -- After falling behind 2-0, Lesley battled back by taking two consecutive games before falling 15-13 in the deciding set Saturday at Daniel Webster.

William Lau led all players with 16 digs for the Lynx, while Christian Domingo added 14 digs and 14 kills and Zach Almeida-Beers added 12 digs and 13 kills.

The opening set might have cost the Lynx the match, as Lesley led almost the entire way and looked poised to go on to victory, ahead 22-19. The Eagles countered with four straight points, the last three with Kyle Clement at serve, to steal a 25-22 victory.

Daniel Webster opened up the second set by taking an 8-4 lead, but four points would be the largest lead in a tight game the Eagles led from start to finish. Kills from Domingo and Max Hovenaar brought the Lynx to within 19-17, and a Lau kill brought Lesley back within two at 24-22 before a Hovenaar service error gave the Eagles the 25-22 win.

The Lynx capitalized on four straight Eagles errors in a 5-0 run that tied the contest at 17-17. After two straight DWC points, Lesley took the set on a 7-2 run culminating in a Domingo spike that sealed the 25-22 win.

Lesley's fouth-set win came on a 9-2 run that put the Lynx up 23-14. After three straight Eagles points, a Hovenaar kill put the Lynx on top 24-17 before a David Miller service error gave Lesley 25-18 victory.

Daniel Webster never trailed in its deciding set victory. A Domingo kill and another Clement error tied the contest 12-12, but with the Eagles leading 14-13, a Chris Shannon kill capped the 15-13 win and gave Daniel Webster the 3-2 match victory.

Lesley returns to the court Sunday at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel, taking on Albertus Magnus at 2 and the Saints at 4 p.m.
