Gulls soar as Lynx lose at Endicott

BEVERLEY, MA -- Lesley fell to 0-3 in 2011 as Endicott bested the Lynx 3-0 Thursday night in NECVA and NECC men's volleyball play.

Stephen Siragusa led the visitors with 11 assists, while freshman William Lau and senior Zachary Almeida-Beers added two block assists each.

The Gulls scored the first eight points of the night and opened up a 16-3 lead a 25-4 opening set triumph, crushing nine service aces in Game 1 alone.

Jeff Costa's Lynx responded by forcing seven Endicott errors in the first 11 points in Game 2, opening up an 8-3 lead. A kill from freshman Melvin Morales put the Lynx on top 12-8, after which the Gulls scored five straight points, four on David Olsen serves, to take a 13-12 lead.

Lesley regained the lead at 19-18 on a Tyler Reeves service ace and again at 20-19 on a Reeves kill, but Endicott scored six of the last eight points thanks to two Matt Devendorf kills, and the Gulls took the set 25-22.

Lesley took a 7-6 lead on back-to-back Reeves service aces and an Almeida-Beers kill in Game 3. In shoring up its sloppy play from the previous set, Endicott answered with a 10-1 run that all but distanced the Gulls. Almeida-Beers cut the margin to 17-11 with his team-leading fourth kill of the night, but Endicott rallied to score eight of the next 11 points to run away with a 25-14 win.

With the loss, Lesley falls to 0-3 overall. The Lynx travel to Lasell for a 7:00 p.m. tilt on Tuesday.
