Lynx drop NECC opener at Elms Wednesday night

CHICOPEE, MA -- Lesley fell to 0-2 on the season with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-18) loss at NECVA and NECC opponent Elms College Wednesday night.

Zachary Almeida-Beers and William Lau led Lesley with seven kills each, while senior Tyler Reeves added a team-best six digs and the Lynx only solo block.

For Elms, Yonalvy Acosta threw down a match-high 14 kills set up by Kevin Welsh's 38 assists, and Daniel Lebron added 13 digs. 

Lesley opened up the night with a 6-3 lead on a Reeves kill and a pair of Blazers errors, but Elms answered with a 15-4 run to take a commanding 18-10 lead in its 25-16 Game 1 victory.

In the middle set, the Blazers scored six straight points on Welsh serves, three of which were finished with Acosta spikes as Elms opened up a 9-3 lead. Back-to-back Blazers errors made it a 12-7 game, but five would be as close as the Lynx came in a 25-13 loss. Acosta totaled seven of his 14 kills in the second set.

In Game 3, the Blazers jumped out to an 8-3 lead before a Lau kill from Stephen Siragusa pulled the Lynx to 8-5. A Jason Moore kill pulled Lesley to 11-8, but Elms scored five of the set's next six point, later opening up a 20-12 lead. Jeff Costa's Lynx battled back with four straight points on two Blazers errors and a pair of Lau kills to get within 20-16, but four Elms kills and a two Lesley errors closed out the home team's 25-18 win.

Siragusa set up all 19 assists for the Lynx.

Elms improves to 1-1 on the season, 1-1 in the NECVA, 1-0 in NECC play, while Lesley slides to 0-2 overall, 0-2 in the NECVA and 0-1 in NECC action.

Lesley travels to Endicott tomorrow night at 7:00.
