CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's volleyball team lost 3-0 (30-19, 30-25, 30-24) to Emerson College on Tuesday night, dropping their 2010 record to 5-17. The Lions improved to 8-11 following the victory.
Emerson sophomore Frank O'Sullivan (OTTAWA, Ontario /E.S.P. De La Salle) had a match-high 20 kills with a .459 hit percentage to lead the Lions on the attack. Nine kills by Eric Doherty (MILLIS, Mass./Millis) and eight kills by Jeff Ackerstein (NEWTON, Mass./Newton South) were also part of a .297 team hit percentage for Emerson.
The Lynx were led by senior Mike Jack (BUENOS AIRES, Argentina/St. George's) who had eight kills with just two errors. Zachary Almeida-Beers (REHOBOTH, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) also chipped in with seven kills.
The setters from both teams were effective as well as Emerson's Steve Selnick (CHESHIRE, Conn./Cheshire) and Lesley's Stephen Siragusa (VALLEY STREAM, N.Y./Valley Stream) had 43 and 25 assists, respectively
In the first set, Lesley stayed within single digit points of an early Emerson lead until the Lions pulled off a five and six-point runs to build a double-digit lead. Capped off by a kill by O'Sullivan, Emerson took the first set 30-19.
Both the second and third sets were competitive with the Lynx applying more offensive pressure on the Lions. Emerson, however, held off the Lesley attack and walked away with 30-25 and 30-24 set wins.
Lesley will be back in action on Thursday, March 25 at 8:00 pm against Regis Colege for Senior Night. Emerson will host Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday evening.
