BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College men's
volleyball team came up short against New England Collegiate
Conference foe the Lesley University Lynx losing 3-1 (31-29, 22-30,
24-30, 15-30) Saturday night in the Field House. Junior middle
hitter Zach Almeida-Beers led the Lynx with 17 kills and 22 digs.
Sophomore middle hitter Sean Moore led SVC with 12 kills.
The loss drops the Mountaineers to 1-5 overall (1-4 in the North
East Collegiate Volleyball Association, 0-2 NECC. The win gives
Lesley a 1-2 overall record (1-2 NECVA, 1-1 NECC)
Serve receive was stellar from both squads as there were only 10
aces on the night. Sophomore outside hitter Matt Schwab had a well
rounded night with five kills, two aces, a block, and a team-high
13 digs for the Mountaineers. Senior Ryan Heron added 12 digs and
junior Jullian Amaral chipped in six kills and eight digs for SVC.
Captain setter Neel Patel led Southern Vermont with 20 assists.
Junior setter Stephen
Siragusa had a career night with 44 assists for Lesley. Senior
middle hitter Mike Jack hit .370,
on the night, notching 14 kills. He also added 11 digs and two
blocks. Senior Jay Mohr also had 11 digs and two blocks in only two
sets to round out the Lynx night.
Southern Vermont is back in action Saturday, February 6th, when it
hosts NECC foe Elms College at 7:00 p.m. in the Field House. Lesley
is back in action February 1st when it travels to Johnson &
Wales University for a 7:30 p.m. match of non-conference play.
