The Newbury College Mens Volleyball team defeated visiting
Lesley University tonight 3-0 (30-15,30-22,30-10), in Brookline,
MA. The Nighthawks were led by junior middle hitter, Max Daley
(Cranston, RI) with 12 kills and a .400 hitting percentage.
In game one, Newbury jumped out to an early lead and never looked
back behind the again stellar performance of outside hitter Mark
Thomas (Wilbraham, MA). Thomas hit an outstanding 1.000 percent to
go along with five kills and two blocks, while fellow outside
hitter Danny Kim (Plainview, NY) picked up four kills and two digs
in the game.
Game two was much of the same story as Kim would collect four kills
and a hitting percentage of .800, while Josh Aberly would add three
kills and one block to seal the victory 30-20.
In the final game of the evening, the Nighthawks had a well rounded
performance with Mike Biuso (South Setauket, NY), James Beck (Havre
De Grace, MD) and Daley all picking up four kills in the victory.
Kim and Thomas would also add two kills apiece, while setter Matt
Talamantes (Sylmar, CA) dished out 13 assists in the game and 43
total in the match.
Despite the loss, the Lynx received a solid performance from both
Scott Wheeler (East Hampton, CT) and Nick Assad (Andover, MA) who
finished the match with five and four kills respectively.
Newbury will return to action on Saturday January 30th when they
will take on Elms College in a rematch of the NECC Championship
last year; the game is set to start at 7pm.
