CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's
volleyball team dropped their season opener against Northeast
Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division
opponent MIT by a score of 3-0 (30-10, 30-7, 30-21).
The Lynx dropped to 0-1 on the season while MIT improves to 1-0 in
their season opener.
MIT's Alex Becherer (WAUWATOSA, Wis./Marquette
University) led the Engineers with 13 kills without
recording an error on 20 attempts. Teammates Garret Winther
(BROOMFIELD, Colo./Holy Family) and Mike
Demyttenaere (BRUSSELS, Belgium/St. John's) also
went errors on offensive with eight and seven kills,
respectively.
Engineers freshman Matt Hohenberger (ST. LOUIS, Mo./St.
Louis University) finished second on the team with nine
kills and also had six aces including five in-a-row in the middle
of the second set.
Caine Jette (HAIKU, Hawaii/Maui) dished out 23
assists.
For the Lynx, Nick Assad (ANDOVER, Mass./Andover)
had a team-high five kills and also chipped in defensively with
three digs and two total blocks. Junior setter Stephen Siragusa (VALLEY STREAM, N.Y./Valley Stream) dished out 13
assists in the loss.
Lesley will be on the road on Wednesday, January 27 against New
England Collegiate Conference (NECC) and NECVA New England rival
Newbury College starting at 7:00 pm. MIT will play in the SUNY New
Paltz Invitational Tournament on January 22 against Baruch College
and SUNY New Paltz.
