CIUDAD VICTORIA, MEXICO -- John Sanchez, a two-time All-New England Collegiate Conference First Team performer and Lesley's second all-time leading scorer, has signed a professional contract with Correcaminos UAT Victoria in the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional (LNBP), Mexico's top professional league.

"I am very excited about this opportunity because it has been something I have had my eyes on for a very long time," said Sanchez. "It's going to be a great learning experience and I am just going to try and take in as much as possible. I will have to come ready to play and practice every single day."

Lynx head coach Donald Morris has no doubt about Sanchez's success at Lesley translating to the Mexican pro ranks.

"John was one of the best players in our school's young history," Morris said. "I know that he will find success at the pro level as well."

Sanchez, a 5-foot-8 point guard and Los Angeles native who scored 1,108 points over his three-year Lynx career, looks forward to fulfilling his dreams south of the border.

"I am excited about this opportunity and I know I am ready for the challenge," Sanchez said. "Very few people get to live out their dream and I feel very fortunate to be able to live out mine."

The two-time all-conference honoree was the fastest Lynx player to score 1,000 points and marks the second Lesley graduate in as many years to sign a professional contract. Former teammate Jesus Trejo signed with and played for the Leones de Santo Domingo of the Ligo de Nacional Baloncesto (LNB) in the Dominican Republic last July.

Sanchez joins a Correcaminos team that feautres a mixture of Mexican and foreign players, including Americans who played collegiately at the University of Illinois of the Big 10 Conference and the University of Mississippi of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Correcaminos play in Victoria, a city of over 300,000, and belong to the 15-team LNBP.

UAT Victoria opens its 40-game LNBP 2012-13 regular season slate at home against Huracanes Tampico.
