LAS CRUCES, NM -- New Mexico 2011 Class 2A Player of the Year Garrett Hendren has made Lesley University his college choice, the 6-foot-1 guard announced.

The former Mesilla Valley Christian Schools guard and McDonald's All-American Nominee led the Sonblazers to a New Mexico State Championship in 2011 as the Championship game MVP and was an All-New Mexico State Tournament First Team selection in 2011 and 2012.

For his career at Mesilla Valley, Hendren averaged 18.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game while shooting 45.8 percent from three-point range. He formerly played AAU for the Danny Granger Hurricanes.

Hendren's decision, he said, was based on Lesley's academic reputation, as well as its location in the Greater Boston Area and desire to mold a growing men's basketball program.

His decision was announced in the Las Cruces Sun News and The Las Cruces Bulletin (both articles free, no subscription required).
