Sanchez named All-NECC First Team; Trejo honored

ATTLEBORO, MA -- Lesley junior John Sanchez was named All-New England Collegiate Conference First Team, the league announced this afternoon.

Teammate Jesus Trejo was named All-NECC Honorable Mention.

As a junior, Sanchez became the premier all-around point guard in the NECC. He finished third in the league at 16.8 points per game and led the NECC in assists with 5.9 per game, which ranks him 17th nationally.

With the ball in his hands, he was not only the league's leading distributor, but one of the most efficient playmakers, as his 1.4-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio ranked him third in the league. He also finished fourth in the conference with an 81 percent free throw percentage, made even better by the fact his 216 free throw attempts were by far the most in the league.

Sanchez set Lesley records of 12 assists on December 9 against UMass-Boston and 17 free throws made on 19 attempts in the team's February 15 win at Mitchell.

On the defensive end, he routinely locked down opposing point guards, finishing fifth in the league with 1.9 steals per game.

Lesley's all-time leading scorer and rebounder in Lesley history, Trejo averaged an even 10 points per game and finished fourth in the league with 8.3 rebounds per game. Also the Lynx all-time leader in field goal percentage, he finished tied for second in the NECC with a .560 shooting percentage as a senior.
