Tufts puts Jumbo hurting on Lynx, 86-39

MEDFORD, MA -- Tufts' stifling defense forced 23 Lynx turnovers to only two assists, holding Lesley to 13 field goals in the Jumbos 86-39 thumping of the visiting Lynx.

Lesley scored the game's first basket on a Jesus Trejo layup, pounding the ball inside to the senior center on the game's opening possession. After Jumbos guard Oliver Cohen and Lesley's Thorton Paul exchanged three-pointers, Lesley led 5-3 after 2:00 in what looked like it would become a shootout.

Unfortunately for Donald Morris' club, only Tufts held up its end of the bargain, as it was almost all Jumbos from then on. The home team rattled off a 13-0 run to take a 16-5 lead at the 13:00 mark before a pair of John Sanchez free throws cut the margin to 23-13 with 5:38 left in the half.

Tufts, though, ended the half on a 13-1 run, and at halftime, the Jumbos led 36-14.

The home team opened the second half on a 13-2 run to put the game out of question, taking a 49-16 lead with almost 17:00 left to play.

Lesley converted on only 13 field goals, shooting 27.7 percent from the floor, 10 percent (1-10) from three-point range and hitting only 44 percent (12-27) from the charity stripe.

For Lesley, Sanchez led the way with 11 points. Tufts' Scott Anderson scored his game-high 18 points in only 22 minutes, adding nine boards to his effort.

Lesley drops to 1-4 on the season, while Tufts improves to 2-1. The Lynx play host to Curry College on Thursday night at 8 p.m.
