Lesley to play Curry in consolation game

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Lesley University men's basketball team competed in the Bridgewater State College D'Angelo Tip-Off Classic on Saturday afternoon and lost to the host Bears 78-55 and will move on to face Curry College Sunday at 1:00 pm.  Following the loss, Lesley's record dropped to 1-2 while Bridgewater State improved to 2-0 on the season.

Bridgewater State jumped out to an early 15-2 lead in the first seven minutes of play in the first half.  The Lynx closed to gap to as little as eight points at 31-23 with 5:43 remaining but that would be as close as the visitors would get.  The Bears scored the final six points of the half and went into halftime with a 14 point advantage.

Lesley slimmed the Bridgewater lead down to 13 points in the second half, but Bridgewater State offense was too much to handle and the Bears walked off the court with a victory.

Sophomore center Jesus Trejo (Methuen, Mass.) scored a game-high 19 points and tied with teammate Matt Grassa (Everett, Mass.) with a team-high eight rebounds for the Lynx.  The next highest scorers for Lesley were Jonathan Cruz (Haverhill, Mass.), Jaime Bolano (Weston, Fla.), and Malcolm Andrews (Medford, Mass.) with seven points a piece.

For Bridgewater State, forward Nicholas Motta (Fairhaven, Mass.) led his team with 18 points.  Guard Judah Jackson (Everett, Mass.) added 14 points and Corey Connor (Providence, R.I.) came off the bench to score 15 points on 5-of-8 from the floor.

Turnovers were an issue for the Lynx as the Bears were able to force 34 miscues.  Lesley, however, was efficient shooters as they hit 51.2% of their shots including 6-of-15 from beyond the arc.
