Coast Guard Academy 85, Lesley University 61

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In their final non-conference before a long stretch of North Atlantic Conference games, the Lesley University men's basketball faced off with Coast Guard Academy but were defeated 85-61.

Senior captain, Joe Chatman (Boston, Mass.) hit double-digit in points for the Lynx with 15 on 6-of-12 from the floor, including three three-pointers.  He also dished out five assists and created three steals.  Fellow captain Mark Stevens (Las Vegas, Nev.) was the only other Lesley player in double-figures with 10 points.

Coast Guard Academy had an impressive performance from senior big man Jeff Prebeck (Columbus, Ind.) who totaled 19 points and 16 rebounds to complete the double-double.  With the 19 points, Prebeck moved into second place on Coast Guard Academy's all-time scoring list with 1,368 career points.  Craig Johnson (Medford, Ore.) complemented Prebeck with 16 points of his own in just 22 minutes of work.

The game was tight early in the first with the two teams exchanging the lead eight times.  The Bears pulled away, however, closing the first half with a 10-0 run, including a desperation three-pointer from Al Sowers (Monrovia, Md.).

The second half was dominated by Coast Guard Academy as Lesley was outscored 49-34.

Both teams were effective in the paint, scoring 24 points each.  The Bears' bench, however, was the difference maker as they outscored the Lynx 30-18 in that category.

With the loss, Lesley fell to 3-7 (1-0 NAC) on the season and Coast Guard Academy improved their undefeated record to 9-0 (0-0 NEWMAC).

The Lynx will travel to Maine Maritime Academy on January 18 at 6 p.m. and then Husson College the next day at 2 p.m.  Coast Guard Academy will open up NEWMAC play with Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday January 9 at 5:30 p.m.
