Keene State College Tournament Tip-Off Day 2

OWLS RACE PAST LESLEY IN CHAMPIONSHIP

KEENE, N.H. 11/18/06 - Tournament MVP Nick Drouin (Weare, N.H.) had a career-high 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead Keene State College to a 109-75 victory over Lesley (Mass.) University in the championship game of the Noyes Volkswagen -KSC Tip-Off Tournament held at Spaulding Gym on Saturday.

A member of All-Tournament team, Tyler Kathan (Ludlow, Vt.) chipped in with double-double 13 points and a career-tying 15 rebounds.  Travon Little (Danbury, Conn.) added 14 points and seven rebounds and Kevin Ritter (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) finished with 13 points for KSC (2-0)

The Owls raced out to a 53-37 lead in a first half that included a combined 13 three-pointers, and a crowd-pleasing alee-oop hoop courtesy of the Owls'David Sontag (Mont Vernon, N.H.) and  Travon Little (Danbury, Conn.).  Nick Drouin (Weare, N.H.) had 12 first half points and Tyler Kathan (Ludlow, Vt.) pulled down 10 rebounds for the Owls while James Parker (Sandwich, Mass.) topped Lesley with 12 first half points.

The Owls kept their foot on the accelerator in the second half taking a 22 point lead (77-55) on a three-pointer by Matt Hickey (Mahopac, N.Y).

Parker led Lelsey (1-1) with 17 points.  Mark Stevens (Las Vegas, NV) had 16 points and Joseph Chatman (Boston, Mass.) and former Owl Stanley Chamblain (Everett, Mass.) added 14 points each for the Lynx.

Both team hit a combined 21 three-pointers in the game.

Keene State has won all seven Tip-off tournaments that it's hosted since 1999.  No tournament was held in 2000.       

CONSOLATION GAME: MARYMOUNT DEFEATS EASTERN NAZARENE 66-55          

KEENE, N.H. 11/18/06 - Fred Stanbeck (Springdale, Md.) had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead Marymount (Va.) University to a 66-55 victory over Eastern Nazarene (Mass.) College in the consolation game of the KSC Tip-Off Tournament at Keene on Saturday.

Bryant Majors (Alexandria, Va.) added 15 points for Marymount (1-1).  Luc Jasmin (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished with 19 points and six rebounds for ENC (0-2).

Nursing a 49-44 lead with 4:30 to go, Marymount went on a 9-0 run to take a 55-44 lead on a lay-up by Majors with 2:30 to play.

The Saints hit 30 of 38 shots (79%) from the line while the Crusaders connected on just 10 of 20 (50%) from the line.
