Chatman buries three in final seconds to down Suffolk

BOSTON, Mass. - Joe Chatman (Boston, Mass.) came through with his promise and lifted Lesley passed Suffolk 93-90.  Prior to tip-off Chatman guaranteed a Lesley victory, and he delivered in a big way against Suffolk.

Chatman led the way with 24 points and seven assists.  Stanley Chamblain (Everett, Mass.) and Malcolm Andrews (Medford, Mass.) hit double figures, scoring 13 and 10 points respectively.  Michael Lush (Chelsea, Mass.), John Micelin (Everett, Mass.), and Mark Stevens (Las Vegas, Nev.) all scored nine points in the win for the Lynx.

Suffolk was led by John Murphy and Brian Small.  Murphy dropped 32 against the Lynx and Small scored 26 while grabbing six rebounds.  Chris MacDonald and Alan Jaziri added 13 points each for Suffolk.

Lesley was absolutely on fire in the first half as they shot a staggering 23-33 (69%) from the floor.  Lesley was up at halftime by eight, 56-48.  Lesley continued its great shooting in the second half as they went up 13 points with 17:41 to play.

Suffolk would not give the game away that easily to Lesley, and they staged a comeback.  Suffolk went on a 21-8 run over the next five minutes, tying the game up at 71 with 12:34 to play.

Lesley would respond and Miceline, Chatman and Sam Mead (Worthing, ENGLAND) would all hit jumpers to stage a quick little 6-0 run.  Suffolk would come right back and the two offensive powerhouses would trade blows back and forth for much of the second half.

With 1:39 remaining MacDonald would sink a jumper to put Suffolk up 90-88.  Lesley would quickly respond and it was Stevens with 1:11 remaining who would tie the game up at 90.  Following a Brad Schoonmaker missed three-pointer the stage would be set for Chatman who would not disappoint.

With 12 seconds remaining in the game Lesley would inbound the ball.  Chatman would quickly get the ball, knowing he would get the last shot of regulation.  With the seconds ticking off Chatman pulled up for a three and drilled it with two men in his face as the buzzer sounded.

With the win the Lynx improve to 9-10 overall.  Lesley travels to Thomas College on Friday, February 2nd to resume NAC play.  For more information on the Lesley men's basketball team please go to their website.
