Team effort drives Lynx to victory over Colby

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley men's basketball team proved against Colby that the team is greater than the individual.  The Lynx's used a complete team effort to defeat Colby College 85-76 even with Colby's senior star Drew Cohen (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) scoring 39 points, grabbing 22 rebounds, and swatting 9 shots.  It was truly an incredible performance by Cohen but it was Lesley in the end that prevailed due to its total team play.

The Lynx had 10 out of their 11 dressed players score and of those 10 that scored 9 scored more than five points.  The Lynx were able to spread the ball around and accumulated 14 team assists.

Offensively the Lynx were led by Joe Chatman (Boston, Mass.) who had 16 points and added five assists.  Chatman got support from Sam Mead (Worthing, ENGLAND) and John Michilin (Everett, Mass.) who had 14 and 10 points respectively.

The Lynx came out of the gate slow against Colby and had to overcome miserable shooting in the first half in order to win.  A team that relies heavily on the three-pointer the Lynx shot a dismal 1-17 (5.9%) from three-point range in the first half.  The poor shooting resulted in an early lead for Colby as they opened the game on a 15-2 run.

The Lynx were able to keep the game close by using their athleticism to force 21 first half Colby turnovers.  The Lynx trailed at halftime 37-34 despite their dreadful shooting.

Lesley quickly turned it around in the second half and with 10:30 remaining Mead drilled a jumper to tie the game up at 55.  The Lynx kept the pressure on and Kervens Desravines (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) converted a steal into a lay-up to give the Lynx a four point lead with 8:48 remaining.  The Lynx were able to extend the lead to as many as 12 points en route to the 85-76 win.

The Lynx can credit their aggressive defense and their spectacular second half shooting for the win.  The Lynx shot an outstanding 7-14 (50%) from three-point range in the second half.

With the win the Lynx improve to 6-6 on the season and look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Elms College on Tuesday, January 8th.  For more information on the Lesley men's basketball team please go to their website.
