THE LEAD – Lesley University walked off UMaine Presque-Isle in extra innings of Game 1 of Saturday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader, 3-2, before cruising to a 15-2 victory in Game 2 for the conference sweep over the Owls.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)

  • With the score deadlocked at 2-2 through seven, the sides needed extra innings to break the tie in the NAC opener on Saturday afternoon. Lesley called on Patrick Teasdale in the eight and the junior was up to the task, holding the Owls scoreless to give the Lynx the opportunity to walk it off.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, Justin Dennett drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a James Brandon single and moved 90 feet away from the win on a base on balls by Colby Jacobs. With no outs and the infield in, Adam Budorick rolled made contact with a groundball to the left side of the infield. With the game on the line, the Owls went home but Dennett beat it out to score the game-winning run to lift the hosts to the 3-2 win.
  • UMPI opened the action with a run in the third on a two-out RBI single to center by Garrett Chadwick but Lesley answered in the fourth with a pair to take a 2-1 lead on a two-RBI single to left by Jacobs.
  • The Lynx were in control until the seventh when the Owls forced extras with a run to make it 2-2. Joey Blake lined a single right up the middle off of LU starting pitcher Dylan Langston with the bases loaded to drive in the run. Langston made a valiant play to recover from the comebacker and try to get Blake at first but Blake beat it out by a step to tie the score and set the stage for the extra-inning walk-off.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)

  • Teasdale earned the win working the scoreless eighth to move to 1-0 on the year while Langston pitched well in the no-decision going 7.0 innings and allowing two runs while striking out nine, his most in an appearance since opening day.
  • Jacobs finished the game going 2-for-3 with two RBI while Caden Shott also posted a two-hit game in the win.
  • Jonah Baude (0-5) pitched well in defeat, going the distance for the Owls and surrendering the three runs on eight hits, striking out a pair.
  • The win was the sixth in a row for the Lynx, the longest streak this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)

  • Brandon got the Lynx on the board first in the nightcap, blasting a first-inning solo shot to left to make it 1-0.
  • Dylan Mills looped a single down the right field line to find the turf with two outs in the second to drive in the second run of the day and give Lesley a 2-0 cushion.
  • A deep sac fly in the third by Brandon drove in the third run of the game to bump the lead to 3-0.
  • The trend continued in the fourth with the Lynx pushing a single run across, this time on an RBI single to center by Ian Dempsey to move the advantage to 4-0 in favor of Lesley.
  • The Lynx broke things open in the seventh scoring eight runs to make it 12-0. Brandon and Mills both delivered two-RBI singles in the frame.
  • UMPI finally found the scoring column in the eighth stringing together four singles in the stanza to plate two and pull the score to within 12-2. Chadwick and Blake delivered the RBI singles to get the Owls on the board.
  • Lesley capped the scoring with three more runs in the eighth as Christian McElroy and Will Stafford drove in runs to account for the 15-2 final.
