THE LEAD – Lesley University picked up a 7-3 non-conference win over Curry College Wednesday evening in NCAA Division III baseball action at Minuteman Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Curry opened the scoring in the third with a pair of runs starting with an RBI single by Cam Barry to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
  • The Lynx answered with three in the fourth to pull ahead for good at 3-2. Cal Caruso belted a two-RBI single to left to even the score at 2-2 before Caden Shott delivered an RBI single to right to give the hosts the one-run lead.
  • Lesley added two more runs in the fifth to jump out to a 5-2 advantage on an unearned run and sac fly by James Brandon.
  • Shott added another RBI in the sixth on an RBI single, driving in Adam Budorick to make it 6-2.
  • The Colonels got one back in the seventh on another Barry RBI base knock to move the needle to 6-3 before Budorick capped the evening's scoring in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single to right to drive in Justin Dennett with the seventh run for the Lynx in the 7-3 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The win was the fifth in a row for the Lynx, matching the longest winning streak of the season.
  • Curry has dropped 20 of its last 21 after starting the campaign off 3-0.
  • Brian Jacobus notched the win in relief, working three scoreless innings while striking out two for his first win of the season.
  • Patrick Teasdale and Evan Swift worked clean innings on the hill in the eighth and ninth to preserve the win.
  • Budorick ended the action going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and the RBI.
  • Shott and Kevin Dorsey both collected two hits in the win while Shott and Caruso each finished the game with a pair of RBI.
  • Barry paced the Colonels with a 3-for-5 outing, recording two RBI in the setback.
  • Andrew Hammer (0-1) suffered the loss going 4.0 innings and surrendering four runs on six hits while striking out three.
