THE LEAD – Lesley University exploded for a combined 28 runs in two convincing North Atlantic Conference baseball victories over University of Maine – Farmington on Saturday afternoon at Minuteman Field. The Lynx pulled away late in an 11-2 Game 1 win before cruising in Game 2 to a comfortable 17-3 final score to pull even in conference play at 3-3 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)

  • Lesley got all the fire power it'd need just three batters into the action when James Brandon blasted a three-run bomb to left to put the hosts on top for good at 3-0 in the home half of the first.
  • Cal Caruso made it 5-0 with an RBI double to field in the second before both sides held one another scoreless in the middle frames.
  • In the fifth, the hosts opened up the lead to 8-0 with Justin Dennett delivering a two-RBI double to make it 7-0 before plating the eighth run on a wild pitch.
  • Farmington got on the board in the sixth with a little two-out magic when Nate Coombs drilled a two-RBI triple to right-centerfield to cut the deficit to 8-2 before LU start Dylan Langston induced an inning-ending pop up to strand Coombs in scoring position.
  • The Lynx responded with a three-run sixth to put the game out of reach. Colby Jacobs picked up an RBI in the frame while the other two runs scored were both unearned.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)

  • Brandon finished the game going 3-for-4 with four RBI, the HR and a run scored.
  • Langston remained dominant on the hill working his fifth complete game of the year to improve to 4-1, striking out three.
  • Caruso was the only other Lynx to pick up a multi-hit game, going 2-for- 4.
  • For UMF, Jameson Bloch recorded a 2-for-3 showing.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)

  • The Lynx came out of the gates hot once again with two runs in the first to secure another wire-to-wire win for the host as they never trailed.
  • Lesley scored in flurries in the nightcap, plating four runs in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings.
  • LU southpaw Roy Lenhard made the lead hold up, working 6 1/3 solid innings in a his third win of the year.
  • The Beavers finally got to Lenhard in the sixth, scoring two runs on two hits to pull UMF to 8-2 bug the CT native still managed to strike out six in one of his best starts of the year.
  • Ryan Sargent singled through the right side in the seventh to move the needle to 9-3 but there wasn't much left in the Day 1 tank as Andrew Gryniewicz and Brian Jacobus combined to record the final eight outs to secure the win.
