THE LEAD – Lesley University combined to score 25 runs in a twinbill sweep over visiting Eastern Nazarene College Saturday afternoon at Minuteman Field. The Lynx posted a 6-1 Game 1 victory before exploding for a season-high 19 runs in a 19-13 slugfest victory in Game 2 to complete the sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)

  • Starting pitchers Dylan Langston and Luke Descheneaux put up zeros in the first three innings in a solid pitcher's duel early on in the action before the Lynx cracked into the scoring column in the fourth. The hosts loaded the bases with one out before Caden Shott drove in the first run getting plunked to force in Justin Dennett to make it 1-0. Next up, Kevin Dorsey scorched a two-RBI single to left to bump the lead to 3-0 which would be plenty of run-support for Langston.
  • Following a scoreless fifth, the Lions cut into the deficit with their first run of the afternoon on a two-out RBI single from Brandon Mercado to make it 3-1 before Langston got the final out via the K.
  • The Lynx added some insurance in the bottom half of the sixth with three more runs as Cal Caruso belted a two-RBI triple to deep right-centerfield and came around to score the final run of the contest on an RBI double by Shott to account for the 6-1 final as Langston retired the side in order in the seven for the complete-game victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)

  • Langston improved to 2-1 on the year, scattering seven hits while striking out three in the complete-game win. The win was also the 10th of his career.
  • Dorsey closed the game going 2-for-3 with two RBI while Shott and Caruso also drive in a pair.
  • Mercado and Eduardo Labour paced ENC with 2-for-3 outings.
  • Descheneaux suffered the setback to fall to 1-1 on the year allowing three runs on four hits over 5.0 innings of action with four K's.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)

  • Lesley scored early and often in the rematch, racing out to a quick 10-2 cushion with a run in the first, four in the second and five in the third. James Brandon was responsible for a lot of the damage with an RBI double in the first followed by a three-run blast in the third. Dennett also had a key hit in the melee with a bases-clearing double to left center in the second to drive in three.
  • ENC began to chip away at the deficit, scoring single runs in the fourth and fifth to pull to within 10-4 before erupting for four runs in the sixth to make it a 10-8 affair. Mercado opened the frame with a leadoff solo home run and then later in the inning, Oneil Jimenez crushed a three-run shot to left to pull the Lions to within a pair.
  • The Lynx got one back in the bottom half to provide a little more breathing room at 11-8 before regaining a comfortable lead in the seventh when they batted around for seven runs to build an 18-8 edge. Boone Scherer delivered the knock out blow with a pinch-hit three-run moonshot that wrapped around the right field foul pole for his first collegiate HR.
  • The Lions would not go away, plating three in the eighth but the hosts also never took the foot off the gas, getting an RBI double in the bottom of the inning from Jordan Reffeor to move the needle to 19-11.
  • The final runs of the afternoon came on a two-out two-RBI single by Elvis Rojas but southpaw Roy Lenhard closed the door for the final out to secure the 19-13 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2)

  • The 22 hits and 19 runs for Lesley were both season-highs and the most since a 20-run, 23-hit performance on February 22, 2022 in a 20-11 victory over Valley Forge.
  • Logan Watts earned the win on the hill to move to 3-1 on the year working 6.0 innings and surrendering eight hits to go along with four K's.
  • Patrick Teasdale worked a scoreless seventh inning in relief for LU to keep his season ERA at 0.00 through 7 1/3 innings pitched.
  • Adam Budorick posted his first career four-hit game going 4-for-6 with three runs scored for the Lynx, also posting his 100th career hit in the win.
  • Brandon and Dennett both finished Game 2 with three hits and four RBI each while Owen Kalagher also contributed a three-hit game, the first of his career.
  • Rojas registered an impressive 5-for-5 showing out of the Lions leadoff spot, driving in and scoring a pair while Francis Ferguson added three hits.

UP NEXT

  • Lesley is idle until next Saturday, April 6 when it is currently scheduled to take on Husson University in Bangor, Maine for a NAC divisional showdown.
