Cross country sweeps weekly honors after record week

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- After record weeks at Gordon College's Pop Crowell Invitational, Lesley's men's and women's cross country teams were appropriately honored by the New England Collegiate Conference.

Keryn Thorvaldsen was named NECC Women's Runner of the Week, Emilia McGrath was named Women's Rookie of the Week, Chris Conforti was named Men's Runner of the Week, and Nick Green was named Men's Rookie of the Week.

Thorvaldsen broke her own Lesley record by seven seconds, finishing in third place and leading the Lynx to sixth place out of 27 teams. Her finish was good for third out of 317 Division II and III runners, led all seniors and was one of only seven runners to break the 19:00 mark, making Lesley history at 18:49.

McGrath, meanwhile, finished in 41st place at 20:06, good enough for her first Rookie of the Week honor.

On the men's side, Conforti led the Lynx to the program's best finish ever as Lesley placed fourth out of 25 teams. He finished 17th out of 275 runners with a time of 27:05, winning his first NECC Runner of the Week award.

Green earned Rookie of the Week honors, finishing in 32nd place at 27:33.

The Lynx are in action again on Saturday at Westfield State.
