Thordaldsen shatters school record, leads Lynx to sixth place

WENHAM, MA -- Senior Keryn Thorvaldsen broke her own Lesley record by seven seconds, finishing in third place and leading the Lynx to sixth place out of 27 teams.

Thorvaldsen's finish was good for third out of 317 Division II and III runners, led all seniors and was one of only seven runners to break the 19:00 mark, making Lesley history at 18:49. Reigning New England Collegiate Conference Runner of the Year Leah Miller followed in 11th place at 19:08.

"Keryn and Leah competed hard with that lead pack and put themselves in the position to win," said head coach Dan Flynn, who lauded not only his veterans but also his freshman runners.

"I was impressed with the improvement of Emilia McGrath and Elena Pereira," Flynn said. "The freshman are responding positively to training and it bodes well for the future."

McGrath finished in 41st place at 20:06, while Pereira placed 179th at 22:28.

Thorvaldsen and the Lynx run again next Saturday at Westfield State.
