Lynx men, women cross country repeat as NECC champs

NASHUA, NH -- Both the Lynx men's and women's cross country teams repeated as New England Collegiate Conference Champions on Saturday at Mine Falls Park.

Sophomore Leah Miller earned her second straight NECC Runner of the Year honor with a personal-best time of 19:07 in winning the women's side, while Kyle Casiglio earned All-NECC First Team accolades with a second-place finish of 27:10 in leading Lesley's men.

"Our tradition of winning continues," said men's and women's head coach Dan Flynn. "[The runners'] intense training is paying off."

The Lynx dominated the women's race, with Lesley turning in the top seven finishers. After Miller, senior Elize McKelvey came in second and sophomore Ana Lutkevich finished third, at 19:47 and 19:48, respectively. Keryn Thorvaldsen ran a personal best time of 20:18 in fourth place, Noa Kupfer finished fifth at 20:37, Kat Vicino followed at 20:47, and Jacqueline Rosa finished seventh at an even 21:00.

Junior Elissa May rounded out eight Lynx in the top 10 with a time of 21:37.

On the men's side, after Casiglio, Evan Reseska earned NECC Freshman of the Year honors with a third-place finish at 27:51, and sophomore Chris Conforti followed in fourth at 28:00. Max Bulger finished sixth with a time of 29:07, and Lesley's Dillon Simmons rounded out five Lynx in the top 10 finishers at 30:08.

For the women, the victory marks a fourth straight NECC championship, while the men won their third consecutive league title.

"Our next goal is our biggest," said Flynn. "We want to run our best at NCAA Regionals and hopefully today is a positive step towards our final goal."

Lesley enters regionals two weeks from today, on Saturday, November 12, hosted by Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME.
