ATTLEBORO, Mass. - A week after recording her personal best in a 5K event at the Smith Invitational and earning Player of the Week, lightning struck twice for Charlotte Goff (Osterville, Mass.) after a dominating performance at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. Goff shattered her week-long personal record and in the process won the respect of the NECC once again with Player of the Week honors.
Goff, who raced in the middle of a tough field that included several powerhouse running programs from the northeast, finished 64th overall with a stellar time of 19:43, breaking her previous mark by 64 seconds. In a field of nearly 300 runners from solid Division I, II, and III programs, her performance is an admirable one.
The team as a whole finished 26th out of 41 teams with 768 total points. Winning the event was MIT (35) followed by Amherst (50), Tufts (80), Connecticut College (97), and Keene State (159).
Goff and the rest of the cross country team will next head to Chicopee Memorial State Park for the Blazer Invitational, an event that the women's team won in 2007. Goff crossed the finish line at 21:01 and will look to improve on that time in 2008.
