Goff wins NECC Runner of the Week after record run

ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Going into last weekend's Smith Invitational, the Lesley University cross country runners may not have had their sights set on setting personal records for time given the harsh conditions and challenging course.  Charlotte Goff (Osterville, Mass.), however, defeated the odds that were against her along with hundreds of other runners to earn the New England Collegiate Conference Runner of the Week.

Goff's previous personal best was 20:51 at the 2007 UMass-Dartmouth Invitational, but at the Smith Invitational on Saturday, the sophomore crossed the finish line at 20:47.15.  While beating her previous best by nearly four seconds is commendable, it's the fact that she shaved almost two full minutes off her 2007 time on this same course.

With a finish of seventh place overall and the women's cross country team tallying 198 points for seventh, the Lynx deemed the Smith Invitational a tremendous success.  The team finished behind powerhouse running schools like Springfield, Smith, Westfield State, Wellesley, Coast Guard, and Mount Holyoke.

Lesley will be back in action this Saturday, September 20 at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational, an event where the Lynx placed 10th and Goff finished in 28th overall.
