THE LEAD—The Lesley University women's volleyball team wrapped up its 2024 season with a road contest at Thomas College, but the Lynx fell 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In set one, it was all Thomas College. The hosts opened with a 10-0 run before Lesley broke up the momentum by taking advantage of a Thomas serving error. However, that did not stop the Terriers, who continued their strong play throughout the rest of the set by not allowing the Lynx to break 10 points and took the opening set, 25-9. Halle Ham powered the Thomas offense early on with seven aces.
- Thomas' offense did not slow down in set two as the hosts went up 5-1 early. However, Lesley fought back and grabbed its first lead on the afternoon thanks to a 5-0 burst filled with multiple Thomas errors. The Terriers responded though and gave themselves breathing room with their own 5-1 run to go up 10-7. From that point, Thomas pulled away for good thanks to a 14-2 run and ultimately won set two, 25-12.
- For the final set, Thomas played hard right away, scoring the first seven points. Despite the early lead, the Lynx clawed back in and was down two (7-5) with a 5-0 run that included more errors from the Terriers.
- Thomas once again gave themselves space and went on a 7-0 run that made it 14-5, but Lesley continued to hang around and cut the deficit to four (15-11) courtesy of a 4-1 spurt. Shae Thomas (Clayton, N.C.) chipped in a service ace, while Jessica Brassil (Epping, N.H.) also had a kill for Lesley during its run. However, Thomas did not let Lesley get any closer, as the Terriers finished set three on a 10-1 run.
