THE LEAD— Husson University picked up a 3-0 (25-6, 25-9, 25-17) victory over Lesley University on Saturday morning in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's volleyball action at the Newman Athletic Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lesley started strong with a 2-1 lead in the first set after a pair of Eagles errors but the hosts took control behind the strong net play of Janna Preskorn who tallied six kills in the frame, allowing Husson to power through to a 25-6 win.
  • The Eagles opened set two just as strong, plowing ahead 15-1 before the Lynx got back-to-back points including a kill from Candace Ells (Boston, Mass.). Lesley closed the set in good form, outscoring Husson 5-3 in the final leg of the action but the frame still went in favor of the hosts, 25-9.
  • A pair of kills by Mariah Febo (Boston, Mass.) put Lesley on top 3-2 early in the third but the Eagles responded with eight straight points to build a 10-3 cushion. The Lynx fought to within striking distance, pulling to within two points at 12-10 but Husson pulled away for the 25-17 win to take the match, 3-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Preskorn led all players with a match-high 11 kills, hitting .625 to pace Husson.
  • Korinne Hall-Johnson (North Brunswick, N.J.) paced Lesley's back row with a match-high eight digs and also dished out three assists.
  • Alyvia McIntyre passed out 17 assists for Husson also matching Hall-Johnson with eight digs for a match-high.
  • The Eagles served up 22 aces in the win compared to three for the Lynx including a pair for Renee Hatch (Norway, Maine).

  • Lesley is idle until Friday, October 25 when they head to New London, N.H. for a non-conference doubleheader vs. Colby-Sawyer College starting at 4:00 PM.
