THE LEAD – A quick start proved not enough as host Lesley University fell to Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-11) on Tuesday evening in NCAA Division III women's volleyball non-conference action at the Minuteman Gym in Lexington, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Maritime went down early in the first set, falling behind 5-2. Slowly, the Buccaneers erased the deficit and tied the game at 8-8. The tides flipped again in favor of the Lynx who went back up by three again midway through, 16-13. From there, the Bucs tied the set back up at 17-17 and then 18-18 before outscoring Lesley seven to two down the stretch to take the first game, 25-20, and a 1-0 lead in the match.
  • In the second set, the Bucs jumped out to an early advantage going up 3-0. Lesley closed the small gap but never led in the game. After going up by four, 10-6, Maritime opened their lead to 10 points, 18-8, and didn't look back. Lesley scored five more points in the game but not enough to get back into the set as the Bucs took it 25-13 and had a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
  • In set three, the Lynx were only able to sprinkle in points between the Bucs three to four point runs. Maritime opened a 12-point lead, 18-6, and would go on to win the game, 25-11, and the match, 3-0.
