THE LEAD – Anna Maria College posted a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-18) non-conference win Thursday evening over Lesley University in the 2024 home-opener for the AMCats women's volleyball program at the Fuller Athletics Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Anna Maria kicked off the evening strong taking an early lead over the Lynx. The AMCATS more than doubled up Lesley in the first set, 25-12, to take a 1-0 lead on the match.
  • Despite some strong rallies in set two, the AMCATS continued to dominate play with a score of 25-16, recording 13 kills in the action compared to just three by LU.
  • Trailing 2-0, the Lynx applied some pressure on the hosts in the third set as they managed to keep the match within seven points. However, the AMCATS made a few late adjustments and locked things down for a final score of 25-18 for their first win of the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Lesley sophomore Rayann Fatahi (Arlington, Mass.) collected a match-high 12 digs while sophomore Shae Thomas (Clayton, N.C.) registered a season-high 10 digs in the setback.
  • LU sophomore Mariah Febo (Boston, Mass.) dished out a team-best five helpers to go along with two aces while first year Hannah Kurkul (Dayton, Maine) registered one block and one block assist.
  • The AMCATS are 4-0 against the Lynx in the last four seasons.
  • Annie Taylor led the AMCATS in digs for the fourth match in a row collecting nine against the Lynx.

UP NEXT

  • Lesley makes its 2024 home-debut on Tuesday, September 17 playing host to Mass. Maritime Academy at 8:00 PM at Minuteman High School.
  • AMC hosts Bay Path University the same evening with the match scheduled to being at 6:00 PM.
