Lynx Fall in 3 Sets

Lynx Fall in 3 Sets

Cambridge, Mass- The Lesley University's Women's Volleyball team fell just short of a five game win streak at Salve Regina Thursday evening.  The Lynx fell in three sets (25-14, 25-10, 25-20) to the Seahawks who are now on an eight game win streak.  With the loss Lesley drops to 10-13, but remain undefeated in NECC play while the Seahawks improve to 13-10.

The Seahawks opened up the match on a 6-0 run and forced a Lesley time out. Despite tallying a couple kills on the Lynx side, Salve was able to continue their streak and steal the first set 25-14.

After trailing the entire first set, Lesley led with a 2-0 start in second.  Both teams battled back and forth for what seemed to be a much more even set until the Seahawks took an 8-7 lead and control of game.  They went on a 13-0 run for a 21-7 lead and cruised to a 2-0 advantage in the match.

The Lynx did not surrender without a fight and showed some hope in the final set.  Lesley held leads 4-2, 9-6, and 14-13 as the match neared the finish, but a quick 5-0 spurt from the Seahawks gave them a lead they would not relinquish.  Back-to-back errors from the Seahawks gave Lesley a chance, but Salve was able to close it out 25-20.

"Salve is a tough team, but we improved as the sets went on," said head coach Jim Ray.  "We look forward to using a great opponent like Salve to help prepare us for our next conference match."

Senior Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, MA) continued to dominate the floor with a match high 11 kills and team high 9 kills on the night.  Freshman Tallin Goldberg (Merrimack, NH) lead the Lynx with 17 assists.

Lesley next hosts Southern Vermont College on Tuesday, October 24 (8 p.m.) in an NECC match.
