Goldberg Hits 500th Assist as Freshman

Cambridge, MA- Freshman setter Tallin Goldberg (Merrimack, NH) surpassed her 500th assist in her young career at Lesley University.  The Lynx setter has played in 21 games this season and was named the New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the week this past week for her efforts.

"Tallin Goldberg had an awesome night tonight, surpassing her 500th assist as a freshman, that's outstanding," said head coach Jim Ray.  "It just shows that we have a lot of fire power in front of her and some great defense behind her to allow her to do her job."

Lesley beat conference foe Newbury College in 3 sets to improve to 4-0 in NECC play and 10-12 on the season.  With the loss the Nighthawks slip to 2-19 and 0-4 in conference action.

The Lynx came out in the first set on the attack and kept the same pace for the rest of the match.  Seniors Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, MA) and Anni Abbruzzese (Hudson, NY), and Junior Cassidy Wygonik (Madison, CT) lead the charge for the Lynx combining for 37 of the teams 46 total kills on the night.  Goldberg continued to service her team for a match high 28 assists.

The nighthawks battled with the Lynx early in the game, before Deluga had three straight service aces to swing momentum over to Lesley, not allowing the nighthawks to come within 4 points the remainder of the set.  Four straight kills by Abbruzzese, Wygonik, and senior Chloe O'Hare (San Francisco, CA) drew the gap even bigger to give the Lynx a 25-16 win in the first set.

After Newbury scored the first point in the second set, Lesley went on an 8-0 run to take a big lead.  A couple of Lesley miscues gave Newbury some life, but another 8-0 run for the Lynx gave them a 25-10 set win. Lesley was able to close out the match with a 25-20 win in the third set.

"Within the conference we've been doing very well and we're looking forward to the last few games of the season," concluded Ray.

Lesley next travels to Salve Regina for a non-conference match on Thursday afternoon, before closing out the regular season with three conference games.
