Lynx Suffer Loss to Wheaton

Cambridge, Mass- The Lynx traveled to Emerson Gymnasium to take on the Lyons of Wheaton College. With the 3-0 victory, the Lyons improve to 14-7 overall while Lesley falls to 6-12 on the year.

Wheaton took the first two sets 25-10 and 25-13 where they tallied 20 of their 31 total kills.  The Lyons also led in service aces with 24 compared to Lesley's one.  Sophomore Cassidy Wygonik and Senior Anni Abbruzzese (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) teamed up to lead the Lynx with seven and five digs a piece. Abbruzzese collected seven of the teams 11 total kills.

In set one of tonight's matchup the Lyons came out hot with an early 8-2 forcing a Lynx timeout. A Becca Houghton (Emmaus, Penn.) kill helped the Lyons go on a 4-0 run  but it was the Claire Cansler (Newhall, Calif.) kill that helped clinch the victory. Set two began with two Stephanie Martin (Centerville, Mass.) service aces which helped the Lyons towards a 8-3 score before forcing a Lynx timeout. It was a back and fourth battle between the two teams before Lyons put it away, 25-13. 

The Lyons secured the win with a victory of 25-9 opening the final set on a 9-0 run. Cansler led Wheaton with eight kills on the night and added seven aces, one assist, and two digs on her resume. Nikita Selivan (Lexington, Mass.), also finished the match with eight kills, six digs and an assist. Houghton handed out a match-high 25 assists.

Lesley returns to Nicholas Athletic Center on Saturday October 7, 2017 as they welcome Bay Path College for the annual Dig Pink game with a 2 p.m. start.
