Lynx Drop 2 in Non-Conference Tri-Match

Cambridge, MASS – The Lesley University's Women's Volleyball dropped two matches Saturday afternoon against Regis College and Wentworth Institute of Technology at Higgins Court in Weston, Mass.  With the losses, the Lynx now post a record of 5-11 on the season.

WENTWORTH 3, LESLEY 0

The Lynx were swept in three sets to drop the first match of the day.  Wentworth was paced by Freshman Caroline Rupp who recorded thirteen kills during the contest.  Momentum was in the Lynx favor early in the first set, jumping out to a 6-4 lead.  However, the Leopards of Wentworth, used a 9-2 run to take a 13-8 lead, which did not slip from their grasp for the remainder of the set.  Wentworth went on to win the first set 25-13.

Wentworth jumped out to a strong lead in the second set 11-4, but Lesley was able to close the gap, 14-11, behind the efforts of senior Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass) and sophomore Cassidy Wygonik.  However, Wentworth's relentless attack served to be too strong for the Lynx resulting in a 25-20 setback.  The third set saw Wentworth take a 4-1 lead early on and never looked back, leading to the 3-0 victory.

Lesley was lead by Seniors Kaylee Deluga (9 kills, 13 digs) and Anni Abbruzzese (8 kills).

REGIS 3, LESLEY 1

After dropping the first set to the Pride of Regis College, the Lynx stormed back to earn a 26-24 victory in set two. The victory in set two served to be their only win of the day.  Knotted at one, Regis gained full control of the match with victories in sets three and four.  The Pride never trailed in set three and only did so in set four when Lesley earned the first point.

Set scores were 19-25, 26-24, 16-25, 11-25.

Deluga continues to lead the Lynx ending the match with a double-double, 15 kills and 14 digs.  Classmate Abbruzzese recorded 8 kills and 10 digs of her own and Wygonik added 5 kills and 10 digs to round of the top performers for Lesley.

Lesley returns to action on Tuesday, October 4th and will travel to Mitchell College for an NECC matchup.
