Lynx Fall to Monks, 3-1.

Lynx Fall to Monks, 3-1.

(CAMBRIDGE, Mass.)--- The Lynx won set two but fell short 3-1 in tonight's matchup against the Saint Joseph's College (ME) Monks. The Monks improve to 8-7 on the year while Lesley drops to 5-9 overall.

The Lynx fell in the first set 25-14 but it was the efforts behind NECC player of the week, Kaylee Deluga and Anni Abbruzzese. Deluga had 17 kills on the night while Abbruzzese lead the team in digs with 17. Kelsey Bickford (Somersworth, N.H.) led in kills with 17 out of the teams 43 kills. Junior Libero, Jennelle Thompson (Farmington, N.H.) had 28 digs in the match. Lesley fought hard while tallying 12 of their 42 kills in the second set. They took this one, 25-22. The Monks played two well fought sets, 25-18 and 25-23, to secure the win in tonight's matchup.

In the final set of the night, a block by junior Cassidy Wygonik gave the Lynx a quick 3-1 lead. Saint Joe's then  took the lead for most of the set but the Lynx made a comeback to get it 15-18 and force a monks timeout. A handful of Lesley attack errors gave monks lead 24-20 but it was the block and kill by Deluga to keep the Lynx alive 22-24. However, it was a kill by Bickford to close out the win for the Monks.

Saint Joseph's returns to action on September 27 at 6:00 p.m. as they take on Anna Maria College. The Lynx will travel to Regis College for a tri-match against the Pride and the Lions of Wentworth.
