Comeback Win for the Lynx!

Comeback Win for the Lynx!

Cambridge, Mass- Lesley University Women's Volleyball team hosted Simmons College in a non-conference battle at Nicholas Athletic Center.   After a slow start, Lesley came back and got the win 3-1.

Simmons came out to a fast start making a 6-1 run, forcing a Lesley time out to re-group.  Simmons capitalized early in the set on Lesley miscues, which added to their strong offensive set.  Simmons continued to push on the attack and extend its lead 15-3.  A couple services errors by the Sharks seemed to swing some momentum over to the Lynx.

Kills by Junior Cassidy Wygonik and Senior Kaylee Deluga got the Lynx back in the game, and were able to hold the Sharks at 24 while cutting their lead in half sitting at 12.  Despite the Lynx strong comeback and fight towards the end of the first half, Simmons claimed the victory 25-12.

Lesley came on strong and scored the first point of the second set and continued its offensive and defensive pressure from there.   The Lynx tied the score at 6 with a violent kill from Senior Anni Abbruzzese.  Both teams were going back and forth exchanging kills, blocks, and digs, and staying within 2 points of each other the entire set.  The Lynx took the second set 25-22.

Lesley kept their energy up the final two sets, which proved to be enough stay on top of the Sharks.  Lesley took control of the game and held onto at 19-14 lead in the final set before forcing the Sharks to call a time out and break up the Lynx offensive surge.

The time out proved to work for the Sharks, who came out of the huddle sharp and closed the gap 19-17.  Lynx head coach Jim Ray stopped their momentum with a time out of their own which gave the Lynx 2 quick points when they were back in action. Simmons made it a close match, but Lesley was able to hold them off for a 25-22 win for the set and match.

Lesley was led by a valiant effort by Junior Cassidy Wygonik all game, making numerous diving attempts.  She lead the Lynx with 10 kills and 11 digs.  Abbruzzesse chipped in 7 kills and 11 digs.  Riley Roberge lead the Sharks with 16 kills.  Close behind was Jarene Harberts with 14 kills and 10 digs, Amber Peterson with 13 kills, and Julia Fusco with 17 digs.

Lesley next travels to Mount Ida College for a tri-match against Mount Ida and New England College this Friday.
