Lynx Hit Set Back in Tri-Match

Cambridge, Mass- The Lesley University Women's Volleyball team got swept in six sets at their tri-match hosted by Wentworth.  With the loss, Lesley slips to 3-5 on their season. 

Wentworth jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening set, with a pair of sophomore Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.) service aces. Lesley cut the lead to 7-2 from senior Kaylee Deluga, but seven straight points by the Leopards extended their lead 15-2. The Lynx scored the next four points to cut the lead to 16-6, but Wentworth extended its lead to 21-6 and took the the first set 25-13.

Lesley opened up the second set scoring the first point, and kept up the offense throughout the set.  The Lynx were chasing under five points for most of the match until the Leopards came out of a time out hard and put on four straight points.  Wentworth didn't look back and was able to take the set 25-16. 

Wentworth came out firing on the third set with a 14-3 run, and never looked back.  The Lynx were unable to keep up the offensive pressure as in set two, and fell 25-9 in the final set of the match. Sophomore Anni Abbruzzese had nine kills, two aces, and eight digs for Lesley.  Senior Kaylee Deluga had six kills, and  Freshman Tallin Goldberg had 17 assists.

In the second match of the day, the Lynx faced off against Worcester State but fell 3-0 despite starting off strong.  In the first set, Lesley held the lead until the Lancers went on a 9-0 run to take a 17-9 lead.  The Lynx were able to get a few points on the board from Abbruzzese and Senior Sarah Hollis, but Worcester State finished the set with a score of 25-13.

The final two sets Worcester State came out strong and left the Lynx chasing points in both sets. Lesley was lead by Abbruzzese with 7 kills and 11 digs and Deluga with 8 kills.
